Jan Davidson, M.Ed., CALT, LDT
Jan Davidson has been in education and teaching for over 27 years. She started by homeschooling her three children, who all successfully matriculated into both public and private schools ahead of the curve despite one who has dyslexia and another who has ADHD! Inspired by her experiences in home schooling and the home schooling networks in Texas, she returned to the University of Houston, and completed her undergraduate degree in Spanish. She continued on for her Master's in Education, Curriculum and Instruction. She acquired her public school teaching certifications through high school, and began teaching Spanish for a private Christian school, then teaching in elementary school - bilingual second and third grade. Later, she was a Elementary Media Specialist, elementary librarian. She moved on to become a Parent Literacy Instructor, a position funded by a federal grant.
Jan became committed to assisting dyslexic students, completing her certification for Certified Academic Language Therapist through Neuhaus Education Center, and acquired her Dyslexic Therapist licensing for the state of Texas. She is one of the few bilingual dyslexia therapists in Texas.
As she became immersed in the world of dyslexia therapy, Jan came to realize that one of the biggest obstacles for dyslexic learners was that their parents were uncertain what they could do to support their children. She determined that there were more support opportunities for these children if she trained the parents on how to continue working with their children, instead of solely relying on a therapist.
Jan is committed to dyslexic therapy being available and affordable for more children. In this manner, she is also offering specialized parental workshops and training, so parents are minimally dependent on extensive therapy with the specialist, and can do more ongoing support themselves.
