Rowan County Historical / Veterans Museum is an all-volunteer non-profit museum – free to the public.  Our goal is to Honor our country, our flag, our military, our veterans; to Educate the public and to Preserve military artifacts and history of our veterans.

Our museum is  located  at the rear of Freedom Park on the old Rowan County Courthouse property in downtown Morehead, Kentucky.  We are open on Saturdays from 10:00 am till 2:00 pm.  We are also open by appointment.  Email us at or call us at (800) -310-7904 Extension 805.

Guided tours are also available upon request to include the Veterans Museum, the Veterans Memorial Wall, Freedom Park and the Old Courthouse property.

Our curators are an eclectic mix of Rowan County veterans, of all ages, all having honorably served in different military branches at different times. The unique layering of different generations; of different experiences; of different times; of different places; mixed with different personalities; results in a wonderfully colored patchwork quilt that well represents our unique, yet connected, military history.  The commonalities of patriotism, loyalty, and love of country are indelibly immersed in our local culture and tied firmly to our region.

You will likely find it difficult to leave our little museum without a renewed feeling of patriotism and a profound awaking of the honor we rightfully bestow upon the patriots and defenders of our great country, both past and present.

You will be touched by the experience!

What's the Best About Our Organization?

The Rowan County Historical Veterans Museum operates as a part of the non-profit Rowan County (Kentucky) Veterans Foundation located in Morehead, Rowan County, Kentucky 40351.

Our museum exhibits artifacts, memorabilia and videos explaining wars and events primarily for World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam war, and the War on Terror.

One of our exhibits, the Pearl Harbor Exhibit, provides an historical overview of Pearl Harbor including the events that preceded and the events that followed the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor  on December 7, 1941.

Although our museum primarily displays artifacts and provides information relating to the United States military; we also display artifacts from our foreign allies and foreign enemy forces.

We have a large display of military uniforms, most worn by citizens of Rowan County. Our small museum is packed with interesting artifacts reflecting our great military history covering all domestic branches of service including Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine.
