Ray's New Zealand customers include, the major New Zealand Power Utilities, TelstraClear, Air New Zealand, TVNZ, QBE and IAG Insurance, In Australia, Ray has served Origin Energy, City West Water, ActewAGL, Alinta and RED Energy. In South-East Asia and Europe, Ray has provided advice to CALTEX Pacific, SONY, ING Barings and the Malaysian Department of Justice.
Among Ray’s larger projects were;
- Managing the IT operations for St John, including major upgrades to their Microsoft Finance, Sharepoint Intranet, and implementing a infrastructure resilience project that enabled the organisation's IT and email systems to survive through the Christchurch earthquakes.
- Managing the replacement of QBE Insurance International’s quotation underwriting, claims, financial and data warehouse systems, which involved managing process and cultural changes embedded in systems that had been in place for almost two decades.
- Undertaking an extensive analysis of the IT costs for ING Barings Bank identifying opportunities and initiating a project resulting in global annual savings in excess of US$80m.
- Project office management for Gentrack, international vendors of Billing and CRM software for the utility sector, directing a number of simultaneous multi-million dollar projects. These ranged from “greenfield” installations to complex data and conversion undertaking involving hundreds of thousands of customer accounts and significant process change within the back office and contact centres.
- Establishing the Air New Zealand/BNZ Global Plus credit card based customer loyalty programme as a joint venture between three of New Zealand’s largest enterprises. This programme won several marketing awards and exceeded the expectations of the partners.
- Directing the development of the PEACE billing and customer management software for the Gas, Electricity Utility Markets hailed by the Aberdeen group as "staking out a leadership position in IT for retail energy companies"
Ray has extensive project management experience using recognised techniques such as AGILE, PMBOK, & PRINCE2.
In addition to his consulting practice, Ray lectures in Project, Operations and Supply Chain Management, throughout NZ, Australia and SE Asia (up to 3 lecture tours per year), and has been a course convener and lecturer for the MBA programmes offered by The University of Waikato and Auckland’s University of Technology.
Ray’s MBA thesis - “Predictors for effective IT deployment within organisations”, a detailed analysis of organisational behaviour and approaches to project and change management, was published as a feature article in NZ Computerworld. He is a Certified Insurance Professional with a specialisation in Risk Management, and Cost Accounting, a Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management and holds a Batchelor's degree in Health Science (Paramedic). Outside of work Ray is a volunteer Frontline Ambulance Officer and Event Team Manager for St John.
