Workshop

Rational Points - Theory & Experiment

Tuesday, 25th May - Saturday, 29th May, 2010

Institute for Mathematical Research (FIM), ETH Zürich, Switzerland

Organizers: Ulrich Derenthal (Universität Freiburg; now: Leibniz Universität Hannover) & Gisbert Wüstholz (ETH Zürich)

The workshop covers a wide spectrum of problems in arithmetic algebraic geometry and number theory that are related to rational points on curves and higher-dimensional algebraic varieties. Here, the most important questions are concerned with the

    • existence,

    • finiteness,

    • distribution of rational points,

    • effectivity of the methods involved.

The main goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers working on the theoretical and experimental aspects of these questions, using methods such as

    • diophantine geometry,

    • analytic number theory,

    • L-series,

    • p-adic analysis and geometry,

    • large-scale computer algebra experiments
