Course description: Â The course focus is on the structure of markets and interactions between firms. The main issue studied is the sources of and limitations on market power of firms. We will start with the basic market structures, perfect competition and monopoly, then extend them to imperfect competition structures, like oligopoly. Some of the topics covered are price discrimination, two-part tariffs, limit pricing, etc. Some empirical evidence, drawn primarily from the U.S. economy, will be explored.
