I am a Senior Economist in the Department of Economic and Policy Research at the Reserve Bank of India, where I work on monetary policy, inflation measurement and forecasting, and the macroeconomics of India's financial sector. Recent work includes a multivariate core trend inflation measure for real-time inflation tracking, a multi-factor GDP nowcast for India, and an evaluation of the RBI's communication under inflation targeting. I serve on the RBI Bulletin Editorial Board and received the Best RBI Research Paper Award for the Year2024–25.
My research methods span across DSGE modelling, time-series forecasting, machine learning and NLP-based sentiment indicators, and welfare analysis — chosen for the policy question at hand rather than for their own sake.
Before joining the RBI in 2018 I was a Researcher at DTU Management, Technical University of Denmark, working on urbanisation, congestion and productivity under the URBAN project and consulting for the Danish Road Directorate on the agglomeration benefits of road investment. Earlier I was an Assistant Professor at Shiv Nadar University, where I taught mathematics and statistics and helped establish the Big Data Analytics Centre.
I hold a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (2012), supervised by Prof. Bernard Cornet, an Erasmus Mundus master's in Quantitative Economics from Paris 1 and Bielefeld University, and a B.Math from the Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore.
My research has been published in the Journal of Urban Economics, Economics Letters, Economic Modelling, and Economic Analysis and Policy, among others. I have also taught graduate courses in economics, mathematics and statistics, and presented my research work at reputed universities and policy institutions including the Bank for International Settlements, SAARCFINANCE, Bank Indonesia, UC Davis, the Paris School of Economics, and the Indian Statistical Institute.
In my leisure time, I enjoy visualizing social networking data and finding patterns using modern machine learning techniques. I also enjoy traveling and sports, particularly running, and regularly participate in half and full marathons.
