Emerald Isle & the Crystal Coast

Emerald Isle is one of five municipalities on the barrier island known as Bogue Banks.  At just over 25 miles long, Bogue Banks has the unique distinction of running east-to-west in a state famous for its Outer Banks which run north-south.  With the ocean to the south, you can wake up early, walk a few steps to the beach and catch a beautiful sunrise over the water, then enjoy your day and return to the beach in the evening to catch an equally spectacular sunset over the water as well!  And with Bogue Sound, the body of water between Bogue Banks and the mainland, just to the north, you can enjoy a peaceful day of wading, kayaking, or just relaxing on some of the sound-side beaches, rare on the east coast, but common on Bogue Banks.

  • 18 miles to Fort Macon, a fully-restored pre-Civil War fort that saw action in multiple wars
  • 18 miles to Beaufort -- home to the Blackbeard Museum and Sanitary Seafood!
