For the past three years, I’ve been teaching with Prof. Jeffrey Sachs a pioneering class on “Human Ecology and Sustainable Development” at The School of International and Public Affairs in Columbia University.
The course is a work in progress. We attempt to gather the best economic and scientific work on the notion of sustainability and coupled human natural dynamics. It includes economic growth theory with an environmental and resource emphasis, a review of the current scientific thinking on global environmental change, and discussions of development and environmental policies.
The class is now offered on a PhD track (as part of the sustainable development PhD program) and a Master’s track (as part of the Master’s in Development Practice and the general SIPA curriculum). The course contents can be accessed here. Choose “Human Ecology”, login as a guest, and use the enrollment key “ecology”. Comments are welcome.
