PA/DE style Tomato Pie
This is a recipe for a Pennsylvania/Delaware style tomato pie, sort of a thick, garlicky pizza without the cheese.
Start with a 12" pizza dough, eg following your bread machine recipe.
- 8 oz can tomato sauce
- one-half 6 oz can tomato paste
- 4 garlic cloves
- 1 tablespoon e.v. olive oil
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon grated cheese (optional)
- cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to taste
- salt to taste
Press garlic into olive oil, cook gently to avoid browning.
Add tomato sauce and tomato paste and balsamic vinegar.
Add remaining dry ingredients.
Simmer 10 min.
Apply sauce evenly on crust.
Cook at 425 deg for 10-15 min.
