The Common Core and Reading Disabilities: What's Important to Know

On February 4th, we will host M. Tara Joyce, Ed.D., for a presentation about the Common Core State Standards and reading disabilities.   Dr. Joyce’s presentation will include a discussion about the greater reading demands of the common core, and what teachers and parents need to know about the impact of the new standards on students with reading disabilities.  Her presentation will also include suggestions for assisting students with reading disabilities with the more rigorous testing and coursework resulting from the new standards.  

This meeting is scheduled for  Tuesday, February 4th at 7:00 PM in the LRC at Park Jr. High School, 333 N. Park Road, La Grange Park IL.

 

Dr. Joyce is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Reading Program at Saint Xavier University.  Dr. Joyce earned an M.S. in reading education from Syracuse University and an Ed.D. in human development and reading from Harvard University.  Her teaching experience includes positions as a classroom teacher, Title I reading teacher, and reading specialist, as well as teaching reading courses at both undergraduate and graduate university levels.
