When: Tuesday, May 24th
Time:  7pm - 9pm
Where:
LRC at Park Jr. High School, La Grange Park, IL

RESCHEDULED FROM MAY 10th

Eleanor Salyer, LPC, will give a presentation on Understanding Autism.  With so much information in the news about Autism it can become quite confusing.  The rate of Autism affecting kids has increased dramatically and yet so many of us do not understand what Autism is, how it is diagnosed, the symptoms, and treatments.  Over time, people have used many words to describe Autism such as: The Autism Spectrum, High Functioning Autism, and Asperger’s Syndrome.  Please join us as we try to uncover what Autism and other related disorders are, as well as how we can understand the struggles and successes of those affected by Autism.

The presentation will be followed by time for networking and discussion.  All parents, teachers, and community members are invited to attend.

Eleanor Salyer is a Licensed Professional Counselor at Charlie’s Gift working with children on the Autism Spectrum and related disorders.  She has a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on Child and Adolescent development from Benedictine University.  She has worked with children on the Autism Spectrum for over 4 years doing Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) and counseling.  She has experience working with individuals, families, and groups dealing with concerns such as depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, grief, behavioral issues, social skills, and parenting skills.  Eleanor uses a variety of intervention techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy and Art Therapy.
