Cathedral Square, Christchurch, New Zealand. The Cathedral is based on a design by the British architect George Gilbert Scott. The first cornerstone was laid in 1864 but it took another 40 years, in 1904, before the building was completed. Earthquakes caused minor damage in 1881, 1888, 1901, and 1910 but sadly the Cathedral was badly damaged by the magnitude 6.3 quake that struck the city on 22nd February 2011 when the Bell Tower toppled into the Nave.
