Monday night saw our minor hurlers take on Kilmacud Crokes in the Minor Hurling Div.3 With holidays and injury depriving manager Enda Mulcahy of 5 of his starting 15 he called on members of the Under 16 squad who more then repaid his fate with fine performances. On a perfect evening for hurling neither side disappointed.

The 1st half was played at a terrific pace which saw Crokes score an early goal but Raheny responded well with some fine scores from Eoghan Smyth, Eoin Gillen and Brian Fenton taking a 2 point lead in at the break.

The 2nd half started with Crokes scoring 2 points to level the tie but as the game went on it became a tactical battle between the 2 sidelines with many positional changes around the middle. Crokes started to get on top, however trojan defending from Liam O’Shea, Luke Bennett, Simon Deignan kept the pressure of the shooters and Crokes had many wides. With Raheny now winning the lions share of possession from puck outs through some fine fielding from Robert Diffley in midfield, Raheny soon regained control and a long free from Luke Bennett well inside his own half was catch superbly by Jack Dempsey on the edge of the square and he gave the Crokes keeper no chance with a blistering shot to the back of the net.

Raheny defended their lead in the last quarter with the pride and passion associated with Pitch 9, Liam O'Shea in goal had to pull of a match winning save in the final minutes to see Raheny through to the final v Erins Isle by 2 points.
