106th Entry No.1 School of Technical Training, RAF Halton; our Motto: Optimum et Omega, "The Best and the Last" of Trenchards Brats, training in a single trade over three years. The motto should have read modestly: ULTIMUS OPTIMORUM "The last of the best" but we didn't know the Latin translation at the time!
14th January 1964, 165 Aircraft Apprentices arrived to join the 106th Entry, 159 graduating at the Passing Out Ceremony on the 14th December 1966.
Officer Cadetships: 11, Direct Entry Commissions: 4, ONC's: 74%
Since those formative years many of us continue to maintain contact through reunions held either in conjunction with the RAF Halton Apprentices Triennial Reunions or separately to celebrate a landmark year or milestone.
We also have a Facebook site, '106th entry - Raf Halton Apprentice Group' where a few of us have found a different meaning of the word 'posting'!
If you can join us, please click on the Facebook icon below. You can also join members on our Google Group '106th Entry RAF Halton'. Click here to the page on how to join and you'll soon be communicating with a wider group and able to share some memories for sure!
We aim to get together at least once a year from hereon. We're not getting any younger and sadly we have already lost some dear colleagues. 2018 saw us meet up in January for a lunch at the Red Lion in Wendover. This was followed by a weekend in Lincoln for some golf and a visit to the Bomber Command Memorial. In September 2019 we visited Cambridge and IWM Duxford and still had time for golf.
Our next reunion coincides with the last visit to RAF Halton organised by the RAFHAA on Saturday 15th August 2020. We are getting together in the evening of 15th August at Horwood House Hotel near Milton Keynes. Full details here.
