Hello! I am Rafael Dix-Carneiro, a Full Professor of Economics at Duke University.

I study how international trade impacts labor markets and development. Much of my work examines how workers, firms, and regions adjust to trade shocks. I am also interested in labor market informality, migration, firms’ responses to exchange rate fluctuations, and the links between economic conditions and crime.

I am currently working as a consultant for the United States International Trade Commission helping them implement some of the models I have developed with collaborators. In the past, I have been an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland (2011-2013), held visiting professor positions at Yale University (2018-2019) and at the University of Zurich (2022-2023), and worked as a consultant for the World Bank in a few occasions.

I am currently an associate editor at Quantitative Economics, and have been an editor at Economia, the Journal of LACEA (2018-2023).

I am a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) in the ITI and DEV groups, and an Affiliate at the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD).

Here is my Google Scholar Profile.
