Conference on Consciousness and Bicameral Studies

June 5–8, 2013

Temple Israel

This interdisciplinary conference drew together neuroscientists, clergy, linguists, psychologists, historians, philosophers, as well as anyone who is intrigued by questions about how and why we humans began to think about thinking. Is consciousness a product of biology, hundreds of thousand years old?  Or is it a product of human culture, less than 4,000 years old?

The conference was co-hosted by Temple Israel and the Julian Jaynes Society.
