About Me

Hi, there! I am currently an Associate Professor at the University of Canberra. Earlier, I have served as Faculty at the Indian Institute of Technology (Ropar), International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (India), U Glasgow, Singapore, and as Research Scientist at the Institute of High Performance Computing (A*STAR, Singapore) and Advanced Digital Sciences Center, University of illinois at Urbana-Champaign's research center in Singapore. My research focuses on Human-centered computing, which involves design and implementation of interactive/user-centric AI applications. In particular, I am interested in designing and developing theoretical and empirical approaches for understanding human visual/emotional perception and human behavior, and modeling human signals (eye movements, EEG, facial movements) as a source of input/feedback in AI applications. My research in particular incorporates ideas from psychology and sociology, and focuses on the utilization of multimodal behavioral signals. I was identified as a Multimedia Rising Star in 2015 (one out of 12 nominees worldwide- details here), and I received the IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing Best Paper Award in 2019.

Post my Ph.D. (thesis defended in Nov 2008), I completed two post-doctoral stints at the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering (DISI), University of Trento, Italy, with Prof. Nicu Sebe and the School of Computing, National University of Singapore with Prof. Mohan Kankanhalli.
