You probably know that Snuggie style blankets are everywhere.
Whether you're a devoted Snuggie lover, hater, or just like to follow
the hype, it's hard to surf the net or open a newspaper without running
into an article or two about this phenomenon.
I wrote a
brief snippet for Suite101 that explained how to make a blanket similar
to the Snuggie. It was picked up by lots of sites, some serious about
providing instructions for making these blanket/robe combos and some
wondering what all the fuss was about. I included directions along with
a link to a pdf downloadable pattern.
In the ensuing
weeks, I've received lots of comments and questions along with requests
for a child's version.
Blankets with sleeves have become a designer phenomenon sporting sports logos, hobby icons, fashion colors and even utility pockets. There are whole sites devoted to specialty fleece fabrics designed to make the perfect personalized "Snuggie" or snuggle blanket for the winter months.
At the bottom of this page you'll find a pattern for an adult sleeved blanket (Snuggie-style). You can easily make one in an afternoon.
I have included a pattern for a
child's "Snuggie" too You'll find it below.
Christmas is coming (isn't it always?), and getting my crafting
done before the holiday is a challenge. Speaking from experience, it's a good idea to make a list of snuggle blanket gift recipients and start sewing early. I've been up at midnight on Christmas Eve finishing one of these beauties, and even though they're a breeze to put together, there are better things to do on the eve of Christmas than spend it in front of a sewing machine.
