Locomotive numbers: 1300-1344
The primary use for the 1300 class was for coal from the Moura and Blackwater mines, with these locos being based at Gladstone. They were also used on general freight services. Known as the "Poms", they were perhaps not as reliable as some of the other classes.
After the 1986 electrification in the Bowen Basin coalfields, the class became surplus, and was sold to TasRail.

MKA:
Eight of the ZC class were bought by MKA, and modified at Whyalla into the MKA class. Two of these were then leased to BHP at Whyalla, while others went overseas. In 2004, when PacNat Qld started operations, they bought three of the class (through RTS).

Pacific National Queensland:
With its PN class still under construction, PNQ needed some motive power in 2004, and three of the MKA class became the locos to use for work on the North Coast line (initially based in the Maryborough region).Now, with the PN class complete, these 3 locos have been withdrawn. They were refurbished by RTS. RTS also now own the rest of the Australian-based MKA class.
