The 1200 class intially saw use for wheat traffic, but later on spent most of their time on the main passenger trains.
1208 was rebuilt as 1225 in 1984-5, using parts from 1252 and 1253 class locos, and also being changed to the narrow body of the 1250 class. It was nicknamed "Hybrid" after this work.

 Undergoing Restoration 1225 was stored at the Redbank Workshops from 1987 to late 2010. 1225 is at the Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway Depot going to be restored to operational order
