Case Report‎ > ‎

Familiarise yourself with the format of case studies.

  • Now that you have decided to write a case report, read some case reports from journals to familiarize yourself with this form of writing. Think about which audience you want to address and make a list of journals that includes such readership. Choose journals that publish case reports and are peer-reviewed. Go through the guidelines for authors prescribed by these journals so that you have an understanding of what is expected.

  • The purpose of a case report is to share information to be able to help the reader identify and manage a similar problem. There should be a message in it for the reader. The case could either be an original condition (which is rather rare), or it could be a complication of a disease. A series of patients presenting similar conditions holds stronger than the case of a single patient. Write with the motive of sharing an interesting occurrence rather than for the sake of authorship.
