BACKGROUND: Machine learning is one of today's most rapidly growing technologies, lying at the intersection of computer science and statistics, and at the core of artificial intelligence and data science. Recent progress in machine learning has been driven both by the development of new learning algorithms and theory and by the ongoing explosion in the availability of online data and low-cost computation. The use of data-intensive machine-learning methods can be found throughout science, technology and commerce, leading to more evidence-based decision-making across many walks of life, including health care, manufacturing, education, financial modelling, policing, and marketing. Each of these domains has great research potential. This course would cover topics relevant to the knowledge and understanding necessary to teach and do research in this emerging field of study. The course includes both theoretical lectures and hands on practice sessions on topics related to machine learning.

COURSE CONTENTS: The topics that are going to be covered are as follows:

  1. Machine learning for predictive data analytic
  2. Supervised, Semi-supervised and Reinforcement learning
  3. Information and Similarity based learning
  4. Probability and Error based learning
  5. Optimization algorithms
  6. Opportunities and challenges
  7. Case studies on
    • Network security
    • Wireless sensor networks
    • Computer vision

COURSE MATERIAL:  Each registered participant will be provided with a set of comprehensive lecture notes.
