Qingpeng Zhang

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow working with Dr. Susannah Tringe  at DOE Joint Genome Institute, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

Broadly my research interest is developing novel computational methods to make sense of the big data generated in scientific research. Currently I am working on applying machine learning techniques in the analysis of large metagenomic data.

During my Ph.D. study in Computer Science at Michigan State University, under the supervision of  Dr. C. Titus Brown, I work on a wide range of projects on software development and bioinformatics  - from an efficient k-mer counting software (khmer) to novel computational methods for measuring microbial diversity using whole genome shotgun sequencing datasets.

Prior to coming to MSU, I worked as a research staff in BGI Beijing and later in Chinese Academy of Sciences

I obtained my Bachelor Degree in Physics from Nanjing University in China.
