Qin Fan is a Professor in the Department of Economics, Craig School of Business at California State University, Fresno. She received her Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University in August 2013.
Qin's research focuses on the linkage between human behavior and natural systems. Her recent work examines regional economic impacts of migration driven by shifts in natural conditions, accounting for feedback from different markets and updating human behavioral changes. Based on economic theory, Qin develops hypotheses about how individuals make decisions in response to changes in urban amenities and other factors within their surroundings. Qin uses empirical techniques and modeling works to connect human behaviors with natural systems and organizational responses.
Qin enjoys interdisciplinary research that bridges economics, natural science, and engineering. She has published in Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (JAERE), Land Economics, Climate Change Economics, Climatic Change, Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Journal of Real Estate Research, Economics of Disasters and Climate Change, Applied Economics, Risk Analysis, The Review of Regional Studies, Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, etc. She has presented in many national and international conferences in the field of economics and regional science.
Qin integrates her research into teaching materials and increases students engagement in active learning using applicable research and case studies. She teaches courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Qin has advised numerous Craig Honors and Smittcamp Family Honors students at California State University, Fresno, leading to publications and student recognition.
