East Pikeland Twp Ready For 100% Clean Energy

East Pikeland Township Friends and Neighbors:

You are invited to join the effort to have East Pikeland pass a Clean Renewable Energy Policy Resolution this spring. The Clean Energy Team is working on the local Chester County effort of the national Sierra Club Ready for 100 campaign. The campaign aims to have every community commit to a clean renewable energy policy.

The first step is passing a resolution that commits to a  transition of township facilities and operations to 100% clean and renewable energy, and complete this transition for electricity no later than 2035 and 100% renewable energy for heat and transportation by 2050.  The goal is to make a policy statement for the community NOW for how our township spends your tax dollars. From this small starting point, we plan to persevere into the future to expand the public interests into a broader sustainable policy.

Currently over 50 other municipalities, more than 5 counties and 1 state (Hawaii) have passed 100% renewable resolutions. We want to get 20 Chester County Townships to pass resolutions this year!

This will only happen when East Pikeland Township Supervisors hear and see community support.

Would you would be willing to do one or more of the following?

1) Review the draft resolution and contribute your ideas and suggestions

2) Attend the Supervisors meeting as either a speaker in favor of clean energy (limited to 3 or 5 minutes)

3) Attend (but not speak) in support of the resolution at the Supervisors meeting

4) Collect signatures on petitions or postcards for the supervisors

5) Suggest some other neighbors we could invite to participate in this process.(Send me their name and email)

For those willing to attend the supervisors meeting, we will schedule a planning session before the Meeting to review who wants to say what.

Either way, would you please add your name to the resolution support petition to ask the East Pikeland Township Supervisors to support achieving 100-percent renewable electricity by 2035 or sooner?  I hope you can participate in some way.

Ready For 100% Renewable Energy - Sierra Club Initiative

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Group (SPG), part of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Sierra Club, is focused on the environmental issues facing the greater Philadelphia area. Our Sierra Club volunteers from Philadelphia, Delaware, Chester, Montgomery and Bucks counties are working together to maintain and improve the natural resources of the area and protect it for generations to come. Our mission: Explore, Enjoy and Protect theSolar Energy For All Planet, is the root of every project we undertake.

SPG Executive Committee meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 6:15pm at City CoHo at 2401 Walnut St in Philadelphia, 6:15pm. The entrance is on the parking lot side of the building - at the end of Sansom St.

The goal of the Ready For 100% Renewable Energy Campaign is to encourage Pennsylvania’s cities and towns to make a pledge to complete the transition to 100% renewable energy.

Yes, we need state and federal solutions too, but we are not waiting. Cities and townships are taking action. Many cities in the US have made the pledge to make the switch to clean, renewable energy. Most cities are pledging to achieve 100% renewable electricity by as soon as 2030 (and no later than 2035) and 100% of all remaining energy (industry, transportation, heating/cooling) by 2045.

Let's add Philadelphia  and our boroughs and townships to this list!  We can create this change in a way that is equitable and sustainable for our communities.

Our RF100 volunteers are organizing to make this happen.
