A Look Back at Pax Christi El Paso's 2012 Events

2012 was an exciting year. In May we hosted peace activist John Dear, SJ speaking on his new book Lazarus, Come Forth.

In August we held our annual Mass for Peace and Reconciliation, this year at St. Raphael's with Father Peter Hinde, OCarm as celebrant and homilist.

All present were invited to take the vow of nonviolence.

On September 2, we joined Border Peace Presence to demonstrate against war and drones when President Obama visited the troops at Fort Bliss.

In September El Paso native Ruben Garcia was honored in Washington D.C. as Pax Christi USA's 2012 Teacher of Peace. Ruben addressed the guests at a dinner at Trinity University. Pax Christi founding president Bishop Walter Gumbleton was the keynote speaker at the event.

Pax Christi El Paso held a reception in Ruben's honor here in El Paso at the Columban Mission Center. Many people from the El Paso community were happy to congratulate Ruben.
