The Palo Verde Organic Garden is a resident-run organic community garden at University of California, Irvine’s Palo Verde student housing complex. Our gardens are located in PV behind the 8200 building (not to be confused with the larger Anthill Village Community Garden, which is located across the parking lot, on Anteater Drive) and between the 2200 and 5200 buildings. Membership is open to all Palo Verde residents.
Unfortunately, space in the PV garden is quite limited. Plots are assigned on a first-come, first served basis, and the wait-list tends to be quite long. However, plots are regularly assigned and re-assigned throughout the year, as members’ interests wane (or dissertations catch up to them…). To apply for a plot and put your name on the waiting list, please fill out the online form available here and someone will be in touch.
Thanks to the Palo Verde housing team, plots are now free to PV residents.
Membership Expectations
The PV garden’s goal is to create a place where interested members of the PV community can come together to grow and harvest organic fruits and vegetables. To make a community garden work, all of the members need to pitch in to help with weeding of communal spaces, keeping the garden facilities clean, and keeping the plots tidy and well-maintained. The most important obligation is to keep your own plot in good working order: if you let your weeds go to seed, then everyone pays the price. Gardening is a fun and rewarding activity, and the PV garden is a great way to make friends with fellow residents. But it’s also a lot of work. We encourage potential members to evaluate whether they will have the time to water and maintain their gardens every day, all year round.
