Who is your SWG representative? Find out here.
Our goal is to support efforts to restore the Puget Sound ecosystem and protect water quality and stream habitat throughout western Washington with a sustainable, cooperative stormwater monitoring and assessment framework that provides actionable information for stormwater managers, promotes greater understanding of harm caused by polluted and erosive runoff, and enables us to know whether and how effectively we are reducing stormwater impacts.
We oversee Stormwater Action Monitoring (SAM), the regional stormwater monitoring program funded by municipal stormwater permittees. Watch the video explaining SAM and why it's important. See descriptions and deliverables of SAM studies, and budget reports, at ecology.wa.gov/SAM.
SWG was the first work group to be formally included in the Puget Sound Ecosystem Monitoring Program (PSEMP). Our geographic scope extends to southwest Washington.
You can join any or all of our email lists on your GovDelivery Subscriber Preferences Page. Enter your email address, click to add subscriptions, and navigate to the Water Quality Program list to find: STORMWATER-ACTION-MONITORING: up to three newsletters per year to hear about SAM study findings and upcoming workshops; STORMWATER-WORK-GROUP meeting agendas, materials, and summaries of our meetings, and additional announcements related to our work; and SWG-6PPD-SUBGROUP for meeting agendas and notes of those discussions.
Read our work plan for 2022-23. SWG subgroups are currently working on:
(1) overseeing use of pooled resources to implement the regional monitoring program;
(2) exploring stormwater management needs, research questions, and BMPs to address 6PPD-quinone;
(3) developing and implementing a process to select another round of effectiveness studies and source identification projects in 2023;
(4) guiding status and trends monitoring activities;
(5) developing a communication plan;
(6) tracking and updating our current work plan.
New subgroup members are always welcome to join our effort!
