The past decade has seen an increasing demand for metals across the world. From the economic point of view, ultramafic-mafic rocks are significant sources of magmatic ores like chromite, magnetite, Ni-Cu sulfides and platinum group elements. The ore deposits form from ultramafic-mafic magmas following high temperature differentiation and crystallization processes, and they are directly linked to the evolution of the parent magmas. The knowledge on these deposits has expanded dramatically over the last few years, providing extensive information and enhancing the understanding of their metallogenesis. The proposed workshop will cover the current state of knowledge and understanding of magmatic ore deposits across the world, in particular of the deposits of chromite, Ti-V-bearing magnetite, PGE associated with chromitite and/or sulfides, and Ni-Cu-sulfides in mafic/ultramafic rocks including komatiites. The conference will cover variations in deposits, tectonic controls and the processes involved in their formation.
