Superstitions are common everywhere, yet little understood. David will investigate some of the scientific inroads and intellectual cul-de-sacs that have been made to explain this universal cultural phenomenon by examining recent research findings in mainstream psychology, anomalous psychology and parapsychology.

Dr. David Luke lectures in psychology at several London universities and is a writer and researcher with a special interest in altered states of consciousness and extraordinary human experiences. He has studied ostensibly paranormal phenomena and techniques of consciousness alteration from South America to India, from the perspective of scientists, shamans and Shivaites. He lives life on the edge, of Hackney, where he is sometimes known to believe as many as six impossible things before breakfast.
