Traffic Psychology

My research interest in Traffic Psychology are: perception, brake reaction time, attention and scanning patterns towards potential hazards while driving, youth and un/expert drivers. Racing videogames study and driving simulation for prevention and teaching optimization.

2014-2015:

Working at the Driving Evaluation, Education, and Research Center at Central Michigan University, USA

on Visual attention, texting and driving, video games effects anddriving assessment.

PhD. Project 2010-2013:

The aim of the project is to study a particular driving behavior that is brake reaction time. We know that drugs, alcohol and cognitive loads like secondary tasks can affect brake reaction times. But what are the psychological factors in ordinary driving that lead to slow reaction in front of danger?

The role of expectations, decision making process, visual and risk perception is investigated in this project. A specific driving task is tested, comparing reaction times in real driving scenario and in a virtual setting, in order to create a database that can be used to study Multimodal Interaction and eventually validate virtual training.

The Project has been selected as runner-up at Doctoral Consortium ICMI 2012, 14th International Conference on Multimodal Interaction, Oct 22-26, Santa Monica, CA.
