I am very pleased to inform you that Howard University will host its 9th annual Preparing Future Faculty Summer Institute on June 6-9, 2012 in Washington, D.C. The Summer Institute is open to all doctoral students who have completed the second year in their respective graduate programs. The PFF Summer Institute is sponsored by the Baltimore Washington Area-Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (BWA-AGEP) and the Atlantic Coast-Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (AC-SBES) Alliance through a grant from the National Science Foundation.
The PFF Summer Institute is designed to provide advanced doctoral students with intensive training and experiences to enhance their preparation for the professoriate. Institute sessions and workshops include, but are not limited to, the following topics: the academic job search, learning outcomes and assessment, writing a Teaching Philosophy Statement, the power of diversity in the classroom, and writing effective grant proposals.
Attached, you will find a flyer that contains pertinent registration and nomination information. We would be most appreciative if you could circulate this flyer to faculty members and program directors who may be interested in having their students participate in this institute. I thank you in advance and please feel free to contact me should you require additional information.
