Proving to Wallops Icarus will not break apart

     On June 3rd, the Icarus team tested the strength of the brackets holding the fins to the fin cans and the welds holding the rail guides onto the booster motor casing.  The rail guides must support the weight of the rocket hung on the rail before launch: approximately 200 pounds.  The booster fins are estimated to take a maximum of 240 pounds of normal force in flight.  The components were tested by hanging weights off of them to and beyond the expected force.  All components passed the tests.
