What happen if I change the system settings when a profile is active?

You are free to change the system settings anytime and your change will always take precedence. A profile only stores profile settings so that Profile Scheduler can apply these settings when a profile is activated.

What happen if an active profile is deleted?

The settings applied by the active profile have taken effect and will continue to stay. All scheduler for this profile will be deleted.

What happen if an active profile is edited?

The settings will take effect as soon as the editing is done. However, if an active profile name is changed, it will be treated as a newly added profile and will not be activated automatically.

Why delete 'Normal' profile is not allowed?

Profile will be set to 'Normal' when a scheduler ends by default. You are only allowed to edit the 'Normal' profile settings (except for profile name).

What happen when a scheduled profile ends (after end time)?

'Normal' profile will be activated if now scheduled profile is found after end time. In version 1.0.7 and above, user can choose which profile to be activated after end time.

If a scheduled profile is found, it will be activated right after the end time of previous profile.

If a profile is scheduled before the end of the previous scheduled profile (overlapping), it will be activated at its start time.

If a profile is scheduled within another (nested) scheduled profile, it will be activated at its start time. The previous profile will resume after that.

Can a scheduled profile be deleted?

Yes, all schedulers for this profile will be deleted.

What happen if 2 schedulers have the same start time?

The application allows you to add 2 schedulers with the same start time. However, you should only enable one at a time.

How many profiles and schedulers can I have?

There is no limit on the maximum number of profiles and scheduler you can create.

What does ‘No change’ in profile settings mean?

The particular setting in the profile will follow the existing setting.

Why is some feature not working anymore after upgrade?

Every upgrade is to improve the application, be it to add new features or to fix a bug. We will do our best to make it backward compatible, however, sometimes a new feature might change the behavior of the application. Please check what is change in the version before you upgrade and adjust the affected settings accordingly. If you have uninstalled the application before installing the new version, kindly check the option settings including 'Scheduler and Rule Priorities'.

Does this application get started at boot up?

Yes, Profile Scheduler will be started automatically at boot up as long as it is not moved to SD card. Application installed on SD card will not be started at boot-up.

Does this this application support App2SD?

Profile Scheduler using notification bar and widget, so it does not allow App2SD.

Can this application disable/enable mobile data?

Profile Scheduler is able to disable/enable mobile data since version 1.2.5.

Can this application switch between 2G/3G network?

Profile Scheduler does not support this feature for now.

How do I disable Profile Scheduler?

Basically Profile Scheduler only applies the profile settings when a profile is being activated manually, by scheduler or by rule. You may disable it by disable scheduler and disable rule in Options, or disable individual schedulers and rules.

How do I hide the profile icon on status bar?

Profile icon settings can be found in individual profile. Simply edit profile and uncheck 'Show Icon'. A general option for 'Show Icon' will be available in version 1.2.8 onwards.

Will Profile Scheduler drain my phone battery?

Profile Scheduler will not drain your battery but will help you save battery usage by turning off mobile data, wifi, bluetooth  when not used. However, please take note that features such as location based rule using GPS does drain battery. It is advisable to use cell-id instead to save battery.

Why does Profile Scheduler register high battery usage?

In order to allow rule such as WiFi, Bluetooth, Headset, Orientation etc to run properly, Profile Scheduler introduced background service since version 2.0.8. Due to this background service, sometimes Profile Scheduler might appear as the top 3 apps that use the most battery. Despite this, my own experiment shows that it actually uses less battery than earlier versions.

Why is scheduler not working after I change the time of my phone?

A new feature has been added in version 1.0.7 to detect time, date and timezone changes so that scheduler will auto recalculate the next profile to trigger.

Why is GPS toggle not working on my phone?

Profile Scheduler uses an internal code to toggle GPS which is considered as a security flaw by Google. Google issued a patch in April 2011 and blocked the application from toggling GPS using the code. At the moment, GPS toggle may not work on some phone. For more details, please visit

Why is Profile Scheduler being brought to screen when a scheduled profile is activated?

When 'home' button of your phone is clicked, the active application will be brought to the background and your home screen will be shown. Clicking 'home' button does not close the application. So when a scheduled profile is activated, Profile Scheduler will be brought to the screen. This is required to apply any brightness change on the phone. However, unnecessary pop up can be avoided by clicking 'back' button, instead of 'home' button to close the application.

What is Whitelist?

Whitelist is a global settings in Profile Scheduler that allows user to customise ringtone/notification volume or vibrate mode for certain people regardless of the active profile. For example: You set your phone to silent at night but only want your mother's call to ring. Simply add your mother's contact in whitelist and customise the volume.

Why is my Whitelist not working?

For higher flexibility, Whitelist is controlled at Options and individual profile settings. To enable whitelist, please make sure that Options->Enable Whitelist, individual profile settings->Enable Whitelist, and whitelist contacts are all selected.

I have configured as instructed, why is my Whitelist still not working?

In order for whitelist to work, the volume and vibration have to be changed dynamically when call & SMS is received. Phone manufacturers might have their own customized logic and behave differently. Unfortunately some phones do not allow volume to be changed dynamically when call & SMS is received, and I am not able to override this behaviour, so whitelist feature will not work. Whitelist feature has been tested OK on HTC Desire and HTC OneX. It does work on Samsung S3 and most likely all Samsung phones.

What is lock profile and how does it work?

Lock profile feature allows user to lock a certain profile to prevent it from being overridden by scheduler or rule. Once locked, you will see "(Locked)" shown next to the profile in the notification bar. To activate, long click on the profile to lock until a dialog is pop up, then select 'Lock'. To cancel the lock, simply tap on any profile.

How does timer work?

Once started, the profile which the timer has been set will be activated. Once the timer runs out, the previous profile will be reactivated, if no profile is scheduled. This is useful for a quick profile switch. For example, you need to speak to your boss for 15 minutes. Instead of configure a scheduler, simply start a timer on 'Meeting' profile for 15 minutes.

How to use the countdown timer?

Long click on the profile to be countdown until a dialog is pop up. Select 'Timer' and the duration, the timer will start counting down.

How to cancel the timer?

Simply tap on any profile, the timer will be cancelled.

Why scheduler/rule based profile is not activated?

Scheduler/rule based profile is activated according to their priorities. Please set them in options and ensure that scheduler/rule are enabled.

Why the calendar rule based profile is not activated?

Calendar is checked every 10 minutes for any updates, the calendar event may have been created less than 10 minutes before its start time. Another possibility could be keyword not match.

Why the location rule based profile is not activated?

Location is checked every 10 minutes for any change of location. The activation threshold depends on the type of location provider. For GPS location provider, the threshold is 100m. For network location provider, the threshold depends on its accuracy and the maximum threshold is 1200m. The threshold of the location provider is displayed in the location rule.

Why is profile not activated when the rule condition is not met?

When the rule condition is met, the profile configured in the rule will be activated, not the other way round. Once the condition is no longer met, the profile configured in 'When condition not met' of the same rule will be activated.

Why is read SMS permission required?

In order to have custom notification volume and vibration for whitelist contact, Profile Scheduler needs to be able to read SMS sender number. Please refer to this page for other permissions and privacy concerns.

Why is volume manually changed reset after receiving call or sms? (Resolved after v2.0.2)

ICS combines ringer and notification volume. In order for PS to set different volume for both settings, PS has to detect whether it's an incoming call or notification and change the volume on the fly. After a call or SMS, PS will revert to the profile settings. Non ICS phones behave the same as the code is shared across different versions.

Why notification still sounds when receiving email or SMS even though the volume is set to 0?

Profile Scheduler only sets the notification volume at global phone settings. If an app e.g. email or SMS app has its own notification volume setting, Profile Scheduler is not able to control it.

Can Profile Scheduler change the ringtone or notification tone for SMS or email app?

PS only sets the ringtone and notification tone at global phone settings . If an app has its own ringtone or notification tone, PS is not able to control them. However, you can set the ringtone/notification tone in the app as 'default', then it will play the default tone in your phone, which can be controlled by Profile Scheduler.

Why phone remains silent after switch from Silent to Normal profile?

Normally users who encounter this issue set silent ringtone in Silent profile and default ringtone in Normal profile. After Normal profile is activated, it will set the existing ringtone (in this case Silent) as default ringtone. To avoid this, either use specific ringtone in 'Normal' profile OR use ringer volume = 0, ringtone -> Default in 'Silent' profile.

Why is manual override feature missing after v2.0.0? (Reintroduced in v2.0.4)

Manual override is not able to reliably keep the profile active as it can be overridden by rule. It's even harder to keep the manually activated profile active when multiple conditions per rule is supported. This feature is reintroduced in v2.0.4. Another option to make profile stays is to use the 'Lock' feature.

How does manual override work?

When user manually activate a profile, active scheduler will be temporary cancelled or turned off (for scheduler with no repeat). The profile will stays unless any of these condition is met:
1. next scheduler start time 2. any rule condition is met. 3. user reactivate the scheduler.

I bought the paid version, how do I transfer the user data from free version to paid version?

User can back up user data in Options, and restore it later. The db file will be stored in ProfileScheduler directory of the external storage. The file can be used for both free and paid version. However, back up db file from a higher version of Profile Scheduler may not work on a lower version.

How does Periodic Timer work?

Periodic Timer rule allows a profile to be activated within certain duration repeatedly. Users can use this feature to turn on mobile data, auto-syncs data for 5 minutes and repeat this every hour. Periodic Timer repeats at the start of very hour, day, week or 2 weeks.

Is rule condition an 'AND' or 'OR' logic?

Rule conditions are 'AND' logic. For 'OR' logic, simply create a separate rule.

What is 'NOT' logic?

'NOT' logic is the reverse of the condition. Instead of activating a profile when the condition is met, it activates a profile when the condition is not met. For example, activate 'Outdoor' when Wifi is not connected to home Wifi network.

Why I can't find ringtone setting in whitelist anymore since version 3.0.0?

The ringtone in whitelist was added to provide a convenient way to change contact ringtone, it was not intended to be profile dependent. As this cause confusion and there is no way to implement this, this setting is removed since version 3.0.0. User can set custom ringtone for contact by editing the phone contact directly.
