Schools are one of the most pivotal and influential social institutions that we have in America today because their classrooms provide the learning atmosphere where students are taught the necessary skills to achieve success in today's society. For this reason, I am attracted to the teaching profession to help shape the minds of future generations with the knowledge that they need to reach their potential and fulfill their dreams.
As an educator I am put in a position where I can provide this opportunity to my students by reaching out to them on a regular daily basis. Aside from the role of the family, teachers play a large part in educating students about how to establish working relationships with other people, self-discovery of their own personal identities, and how to achieve success in life. I plan to focus my curriculum around group work where students will be challenged to expand their social skills while learning computer science in safe learning environments. It is through these learning communities that my students will develop the skills they need to enable them to be successful team members that have the ability to work towards a common goal.
Learning in the classroom is a remarkable process that occurs when an experience causes a relatively permanent change in an individual's knowledge or behavior. The change may be deliberate or unintentional, but either way it can have significant consequences upon the lives of the students’. As a Computer Science teacher it is my foremost priority to turn students on to the world of computing, thus empowering them to become advocates of computer technology. With guidance I believe that all students can make progress in their knowledge of computer technology. Moreover, by exhibiting my own enthusiasm for the material I want to encourage students to share and relate the concepts to their own personal lives.
Teachers’ roles have expanded throughout the years; at first they were only expected to teach the basic educational skills like reading, writing, and arithmetic, but these days teaching has started to encompass students’ social abilities both inside and outside the classroom as well. I plan to challenge my students understanding of computer science while helping them develop inner compasses, which they will use to direct their decision making processes, so that when the time comes they will be confident and capable of making their dreams come true.
