Mythology

The Wonder of Mythology

"Myths symbolize human experience and embody the spiritual values of a culture. Every society preserves its myths because the beliefs and world-view found within them are crucial to the survival of that culture."
. . . Donna Rosenberg World Mythology

Whether you believe or disbelieve, it is a wicked thing to take away a man's hope.
. . .Winston Churchill

Myths are the truths which bind us to our community, our society, our world and our fellow human beings. In this class we explore myths from a variety of cultures and times. We also look at current myths and investigate our own personal myths.

In our busy world, we often do not take the time to relax and reflect. Creating a mandala can help us connect to our inner wisdom, strengths and selves. Mandalas are based on circular patterns; "In general all mandalas have outer, inner and secret meanings. On the outer level they represent the world in its divine form; on the inner level they represent a map by which the ordinary human mind is transformed into enlightened mind; and on the secret level they depict the primordially perfect balance of the subtle energies of the body and the clear light dimension of the mind. The creation of a sand painting is said to effect a purification and healing on these three levels" (The Mystic Arts of Tibet).  Sep 4, 2009, 11:43 AM Shelle Hawn
