Memphis Animal Services celebrated Valentine's Day with one of the biggest adoption events in years.  40 animals were adopted on Saturday.  There were lots of happy people going home with a new best friend.
Professor Paws, Inc. and the first graders from Willow Oak Elementary were invited to attend the celebration.
The children donated their pet carriers to the shelter and got to meet Mayor A.C. Wharton
and the new Memphis Animal Services director, Mathew Pepper.  Willow Oak Elementary
turned out in a big way.   Many of the staff from Willow Oak attended the event and at least
one of them did not go away empty handed.
Thank you Mayor Wharton and Director Hooks for making this such a happy day at
Memphis Animal Services.

Willow Oak Elementary first graders learned lots of things about animals while they decorated their pet carriers.   They had a special visit by Dr. Pope who taught them how to keep their animals healthy, how to avoid dog bites, and how a microchip can help their dog or cat find their way back home.

Five first grade classrooms in Memphis, TN  will be creating "habitat boxes" out of Professor Paws, Inc. pet carrier cartons during October.  The boxes are provided by Professor Paws, Inc. to the classrooms at no charge.  The children will decorate the carriers to create the habitats they are learning about.  When the lesson is complete, some of the carriers will be donated to Memphis Animal Services.
