Isaiah Berlin was a great talker, and many of his lectures and and miscellaneous writings are still being published. But the best thing he ever wrote, I think, is his essay on 'The Counter-Enlightenment'. It appeared as the first chaper in one of the volumes of his collected essays, Against the Current (London, 1979). There is also a Hebrew version:
י. ברלין, 'ההשכלה-שכנגד', בספרו נגד הזרם (תל אביב, 1986), ע"ע 57-84
In fact, that essay began life as an entry in the Dictionary of the History of Ideas, entitled THE COUNTER-ENLIGHTENMENT. You can read the text online. |
