The invention of printing with movable type was obviously an important factor in Luther's success, although there is still much debate about the immediate impact of this new discovery.  The first major major book printed in this fashion was the work of Johannes Gutenberg (c.1398-1468), who completed his Bible in Mainz by 1454 or 1455.  There is an interesting printing museum in Mainz which is worth a visit if you ever visit there:
