Now you can laugh all you want about "I'm a Believer", sung by The Monkees, the first postmodern rock group, in that they did not actually exist, but were created for a TV show, The Monkees, which was on the air from 1966–1968.  This song was their biggest hit, and was written by Neil Diamond, who personified 'Brooklyn cool' in those years, not a good look even then.  "I'm a Believer" was the biggest-selling recording of 1967, and one of the fewer than thirty singles ever to have sold more than 10 million copies.  So treat it with respect.....

Actually, watching them again, they are pretty laughable...in a good way.  Davy Jones, who stands on the far left in the group, passed away at the beginning of 2012, alas.
