1 c. brown sugar
1/3 c. butter or margarine
1 egg
1 t. vanilla
1 c. all purpose flour
1/2 t. baking powder
1/8 t. baking soda
1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Grease a 8x8 baking pan.  In a medium saucepan, heat brown sugar and butter over medium heat till sugar dissolves, stirring constantly.  Cool slightly.  Stir in eggs, one at a time (quickly, before they cook).  Add vanilla.  Stir in flour, baking powder, and baking soda.

Spread batter in prepared baking pan.  Sprinkle with chocolate chips and nuts.  (This works better if your batter is not hot enough to melt the chips)

Bake in a 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes or till done.  Cool slightly on a wire rack.  (or dive in!)
