The Holy Ghost is the 3rd Member of the Godhead

"The Holy Ghost is the third member of the Godhead"

Last month, we learned the forth Article of Faith, which is, "We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost."

As we see, the Holy Ghost is a gift from our Father in Heaven. The Holy Ghost is the third member of the Godhead. After baptism, we are blessed with this gift. There, Priesthood bearers place their hands upon our head, and the gift is given.

The Holy Ghost has many other names by which it is known. One is "The Comforter." The Holy Ghost can lighten our load and bring peace in times of need and raise us up when we feel down.  When we pray for guidance, the Holy Ghost shares with us the will of God.

As members of His church, we are encouraged to always walk in the light of Christ. As God is our Heavenly Father, and Jesus Christ is our elder brother, the Holy Ghost is our companion. It is like a friend who will not lead us astray. The power of the Holy Ghost is remarkable, in that it can manifest the truthfulness of all things. It can testify of the Father and Son, of Joseph Smith and living Apostles and Prophets, and of the truthfulness of this work.

Throughout the scriptures, we are taught about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. In the baptismal prayer, for example, found in Doctrine and Covenants, Section 20, Verse 73, we see that it must be done "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."  I know that when the Holy Ghost is with me, it will guide me to do what is right, which is what our Heavenly Father would have me do.  As the adversary delights in removing us from the promptings of the Holy Ghost, when we are disobedient, our Father in Heaven is pleased each time we obey its promptings. Disobedience and separation from the Holy Ghost is a sure way to bring about sadness and disable us from being able to walk in the light of Christ. Let us hearken unto the council of our leaders, and always strive to have the Holy Ghost with us.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
