Jesus Christ said, “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
The best gift we can give someone is the gospel of Jesus Christ which brings happiness and understanding of why we are here on the earth.
(Can we please turn off the lights?)
Let’s pretend we just came to earth and we had a question. The question is “How can we return to our Heavenly Father?” There are so many of our brothers and sisters from Heaven that are lost and don’t even remember Heaven at all, or even our dear Heavenly Father. Being lost in the world without the gospel is kind of like right now, in the darkness.
Have you ever been lost? I was with my family at the store and I somehow got separated from them. I started to cry and call out for my mom, but I could not find her. I was so afraid and was lost. Luckily there was a store worker who took me and helped me find my family. When I saw my mom I ran over and just hugged her with relief.
The store worker is like Jesus Christ who takes our hand and leads us back to our Heavenly Father. Jesus has given us something that we can find the path back to our Heavenly Father.
In the Doctrine & Covenants Section 11 verse 28 says
(Turn flash light on)
Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I am the life and the light of the world.
We have been given his light and the Holy Ghost to lead us back. We can receive all the Lords blessings if we keep ourselves clean and always follow his light.
Jesus said “For, behold, it is I that speak; behold, I am the light which shineth in darkness, and by my power I give these words unto thee.”
We can be like this flashlight and help direct others by sharing the gospel with our lost brothers and sisters, which will lead them to a place where we can receive the blessings of an eternal family.
(Hold up picture of the Temple with the flashlight shining through.)
This special place is the Temple!
In the house of the Lord, we feel the influence of the Holy Ghost and draw nearer to God, our Eternal Father, and to His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
President Thomas S. Monson told a poem that went like this:
How far is heaven?
It’s not very far.
In temples of God,
It’s right where we are.
I would like to bare my testimony and I know that Jesus loves each one of us. He has given us a way to return to live with our Heavenly Father who is waiting just like my mom was when I was lost. I know I can invite others to come to Jesus Christ and his gospel by being an example, and sharing it.
