March 2010 - Talk #2
Prophets are men who are chosen by Heavenly Father to help us know what Heavenly Father wants us to do while we are here on earth. These prophets are God's servants. They speak to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
The Bible is a record of prophets bearing witness, or testifying, of Jesus Christ. The Old Testament in the Bible was written before Jesus was born. The New Testament tells about Jesus’ life and was written after He lived on the earth. These testaments give evidence that Jesus is the Son of God and that He is our Savior. The Book of Mormon is another witness of Jesus Christ. It contains the testimonies of prophets who lived on the American Continent.
As members of Christ's true and living church, we are blessed to have modern day prophets to help us understand the plan of our Heavenly Father. These prophets also testify of Jesus Christ.
Joseph Smith was the first prophet in these latter-days. We can read how he testified of Christ on many occasions in the Doctrine and Covenants.
We have a living prophet today, Thomas S. Monson. He is the President of the Church, and he speaks to us for the Lord. He was chosen by God and called through proper priesthood authority. President Monson testifies that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and he teaches us the gospel. All the prophets testify of Jesus Christ and teach us what He wants us to do.
President Monson testified of Christ when he said: "He is the literal Savior of the World, the Son of God, the Prince of Peace, the Holy One of Israel, even the risen Lord. … As His witness I testify to you that He lives. (Ensign, May 1988, page 56.)
When we pray to Heavenly Father, we can know that the words of the prophets are true. Prophets are men who walk with God. They keep His commandments and are obedient to the things He tells them to do. When we hear the prophet, we will know that he speaks to us for the Savior.
In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
