When I Am Baptized I Make a Covenant With God

The Fourth Article of Faith says “We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, second, Repentance, third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins, fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.”. I know that when we do these things Heavenly Father has told us to do through the Prophets, we will feel closer to Him. If we do the things that Jesus has done, and try to be like him, we will see how making good choices will bring good consequences in to our lives.

When I am baptized, I will be changed forever. I will be making a covenant with Heavenly Father that I will always do my best to make good choices. A covenant is a lot like a promise. Jesus came to the earth a long time ago, and while He lived here He gave us an example of how we should act and the things we should do. When I turn 8 years old in August, I will be able to make important covenants with Heavenly Father that I will keep my whole life.

In 2 Nephi 31:16 it teaches ”Unless a man shall endure to the end, in following the example of the Son of the living God, he cannot be saved”. This means that when we make covenants with Heavenly Father to follow Jesus Christ for the rest of our lives, we have to keep those promises. If we don't keep those promises, we cannot live with him forever in Heaven.

I know that I want to live with Heavenly Father and Jesus, as well as my family, again someday in Heaven. I will make choices that will help me be able to do that by learning about Jesus and listening to and doing what the Prophets say we should do. I know if I live my life doing things that make Heavenly Father and Jesus happy, I can live with them again some day.

I say this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
