FAQ

  • How do I enrol my Child?
    • It's Simple, Call us or fill out the booking form on the "Booking Form" tab... we will book your child in for a free assessment then make appropriate recommendations for your child's progressive learn to swim programme.
  • How many children are there in each class?
    • 8 children to one teacher in each class... though this is reduced to 4 children to one teacher in the 3.5yrs + unconfident new starter groups.
  • Do lessons run all year round?
    • Swimming lessons are TERM TIME ONLY so you don't need to worry about missing lessons during holiday times.
  • Lesson cost and payment process?
    • Cost: £5.50 per 30 minute lesson: payable either by Cash (10 week block only) on poolside or you can pay in 5x, 10x, 20x or 50x weekly lesson blocks of £27.50 (5 weeks) or £55.00 (10 weeks block) online through your personal homeportal when your child becomes a member... We offer 20 and 50 classes as some parents prefer not have to remember to pay that often and also many grandparents give Lessons for the whole year to grand children as a Christmas gift.
  • How quickly will my child learn to swim?
    • Children learn at different speeds however as a quick fix sometimes, some parents/carers after guidance choose to send their child to two or sometimes three weekly sessions to further accelerate their child's learning and development. Martin would always offer advice and help following assessment and in most cases, one half hour class per week is sufficient to see stead progress in what is widely accepted as not just a life skill but also a lifelong pleasurable sport or recreational pursuit. We are very much sensitive to each parents needs but we always look at swimming as a long term goal to getting all 4 strokes to a good ASA standard ready for further club development... This will take years of commitment and practice but is great for your child's general confidence and helps to foster positive outlook on life.
  • Are there any intensive courses during the holidays?
    • There is the opportunity to enrol your child in a 5 consecutive day intensive course during the first week of the Summer holidays and the first week of the Easter Holidays. Details will be released closer to the time.
  • What is the HomePortal?
    • We keep everyone and everything regarding your child's learn to swim lessons up to date via the HomePortal. Teachers keep your child's progress up to date by continually assessing performance at the end of each class using an iPod on poolside. Parents and children can view the information to see what each child needs to work on and what milestones are left within their current ability class before moving up to the next class. When movement is close, your child's teacher will mark your child as "ready to move" which will trigger the HomePortal to not only send a trigger email to your chosen email address, but will also enable movement through the HomePortal the any available classes at your child's next stage class. Payments can be made through the HomePortal so long as you keep your payments topped up and lessons remain in credit. Failure to keep lessons in credit will force the HomePortal to remove your child from their current slot and make that space available to everyone else using HomePortal including all waiting lists... Badges are awarded through the same system and once you've paid for your badge online, it will be sent direct from the ASA to your home address within a few days... When you enrol with the swim school, You'll automatically receive an email welcoming you to the HomePortal and how to set up your password for first time use.
  • What happens if my child is progressing well and I'd like them to try out a 1st claim Swimming club?
    • We generally forward children onto Horwich ASC (Amateur Swimming Club) as they achieve stage 7 milestone progress... Horwich take children from stage 8 and is a great (and over subscribed) club to send your child to for their further stages and to start competing internally through the club and eventually with competing in Swimming Gala's other 1st claim clubs... Horwich then feed their invited swimmers to a 2nd claim club (Usually Bolton Metro swim squad around here) but the child's first claim club will always be the club they have local gala's with and support... The second claim club then progress children towards regional and national age group times competing in both county and National events, including the Speedo league where commitment and dedication is closely linked to progress and further improvement.
  • What happens if my child misses a class due to illness or breaks, fractures, longer term illness, holidays, parties, trips to visit friends or relatives etc?
    • Children who miss a week or two etc occasionally: (sick, school shows, visiting friends/relatives/ trips out, going on holiday etc) Lesson credits are still payable... Why?... our £7.00 per class fees are set to account for FULL classes during ALL our term time provision.
    • Children who have a more long term illness (4 weeks +) or breaks/Fractures, school shows, out of school activities etc etc:
      • If you wish to keep your child's place in the particular class they're in, then the lesson fees credits will still be paid upfront and will deplete week by week, just as though your child were in the class, until your child return's to classes.
      • If you wish to keep your child's credits but loose your child's place, we'll freeze your child's account so when your child is ready to return to classes,  the number of classes remaining before your child fell poorly will remain... but in doing so, your child's place will be lost to the next child in the waiting list as we require every available slot to be filled so we don't loose fee's for that place... please remember that we enforce these rules so that we know exactly how much we need to charge for individual lessons on an annual basis.
