"Teaching children to understand maths, not just do maths"

This course explores a wide range of techniques, strategies and approaches that have been proven to be effective in advancing children’s mathematical understanding. The focus is on developing children’s problem solving skills, their oral and mental mathematical abilities, their understanding of number and their appreciation of maths in the environment, through active learning experiences. ICT will be used as an integral part of all teaching and learning experiences as well as having a dedicated focus on day 3 (see below). Participating teachers will also explore assessment and planning approaches for maths.
