In The Classroom

Class Goals

By reading the works of authors from various backgrounds and cultures, students will become aware, appreciative, and tolerant of experiences and viewpoints that are different from their own.

By stressing mutual respect and teamwork, students will build friendships and learn to work with a variety of people.

Literature and other class material will be a window into the world, a tool by which we can understand important global issues.  As a class, we will discuss important social and environmental issues and strive to become involved to make this world a better place.

Students will gain the essential tools to succeed both in the classroom and beyond.

Emphasis on Teamwork

I will create teams both randomly and in order to disperse various learning styles and student needs.

I will pay attention to students with special needs, grouping them with other learners who complement them and bring out their strengths.

I will utilize teamwork and games as often as possible to diversify learning and to add enjoyment to the class.

Democratic Classroom

I will conduct periodic class meetings in the last minutes of class.

During these meetings, I will address concerns and ask students to answer:
What is going well?
What would you change?
Is there anything else you would like to tell me?

I will utilize the democratic process to come to conclusions about various class work and homework as well as other student concerns that will arise.
