2008 Press Club Awards

PRESS CLUB OF NEW ORLEANS

50TH ANNUAL AWARDS COMPETITION

 
The Times-Picayune, WWL-TV, Cox 10, Gambit Weekly and New Orleans CityBusiness won the sweepstakes awards for broadcast and print journalism when the Press Club of New Orleans gathered July 19 to honor local media work in 2007. The awards ceremony at Harrah’s Hotel celebrated the Press Club’s 50th anniversary.
The Jim Metcalf Memorial Award for best television writing went to Katie Moore of WWL-TV, and the President's Television Photography Award went to Patrick Marrero of Cox 10. 
Times-Picayune reporters Bob Marshall, Mark Schleifstein and Matt Brown received the Alex Waller Memorial Award for their story, "Last Chance: The Fight to Save a Disappearing Coast.” The story also won first place in print science/health/technology category.

The Hal Ledet Memorial Award for best print photography went to Frank Aymami of New Orleans CityBusiness. The Ashton Phelps Sr. Memorial Award for Editorial Writing went to the staff of Gambit Weekly.
At the event, hosted by NBC News anchor Hoda Kotb, Greg Shepperd of WDSU-TV was introduced as president of the Press Club for 2008-09. Terry Westerfield of the United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area served as awards chairwoman. 
Three Louisiana college students received journalism scholarships at the ceremony: Lauren LaBorde and Briana Prevost of Loyola University and Kevin Sims, a student at Louisiana Tech University
