Boosters & Students to work in Kiwanis Auction

posted Mar 30, 2014, 10:16 PM by John Trent

Prescott Kiwanis Auction runs 7:00 - 10:00 p.m. each weeknight from Monday, March 24th through April 4th in which hundreds of items including food certificates to Mexican Vacations and lots of items in between are auctioned off each night. The auction crew includes a bank of 14 phone operators, which the boosters and students will fill on Tuesday, April 1st. Arrangements have also been made for the marimba named "Kiwanis" by the percussion students, which was made possible by a generous donation made by the Prescott Kiwanis Club, will be on set on April 1st and a short musical demonstration performed by Kye Davis.

Most of the operator positions have been filled, but if you would like to participate, contact President Noel Kingston. We can shorten the shifts and let more students participate as needed.

Be sure to tune in to the auction, especially Tuesday night on Cable Channel 13 or watch it streaming on the Internet at www.prescottkiwanisauction.com

Mr Bradstreet's letter to student musician's parents

posted Feb 20, 2014, 9:14 PM by John Trent

Dear Instrumental Music Parent,

We are officially invited to Disneyland on Saturday, April 26, 2014, to participate in a Disney Magic Music Days Workshop.  This 90 minute workshop will occur on the Disneyland Back Stage Lot on Saturday evening and will include a nationally recognized clinician leading our students in a workshop on better musicianship and sight reading.  The students will need to bring their instruments, but we will not be performing publicly.

A contract with the Prescott Valley based motor coach company, Master’s Touch, is in the works.  We will be contracting two 54 passenger motor coaches.  These vehicles are of the highest quality and the drivers are extremely experienced and professional.

We are working on securing a national chain hotel of 3 stars or greater as close to Disneyland as possible.

Finally, we are purchasing three-day hopper passes for the students and chaperones at a discount through the Disney Magic Music Days.

The trip cost is $400 per person.  The cost of this trip is based on and limited to 100 students participating.  If we do not have 100 students travelling with us, then the cost of the trip will rise due to the shared cost of the motor coaches.

The trip is currently open to marching band students only, but may be open to other members of our instrumental music program if we have not secured enough spots by the deposit due date.

A $150 deposit is due by Monday, February 24.  At 3:45 p.m.  If we have not received the deposit money from 100 students, we will open the trip up to other music students.   This deposit is refundable only if we can replace the student before the trip departs for California.

The planned itinerary is as follows.

A Message from the President, Noel Kingston

posted Dec 10, 2013, 12:26 PM by John Trent

Dear Friends,

In these financially challenging times, we especially appreciate any chance to take advantage of a great deal.  An opportunity exists right now for each of us to make a significant contribution to the Prescott High School Music Program. - AT NO COST TO YOU!  Arizona permits each of us to reduce our income tax bill by the amount of our contributions to schools, effectively allowing us to redirect a portion of our income taxes.  This is not a deduction, where only a portion of what we donate is saved in taxes.  This is a dollar-for-dollar credit against tax.  It doesn’t cost us a dime to participate.

The credit available is the Credit for Contributions Made or Fees Paid to a Public School.  By making cash contributions or paying fees to a public school, up to $400 for a married couple ($200 single), your donation can be directed to a specific school and program. You have until December 31 of this year to make a contribution that would qualify for the credit on your 2013 individual income tax return. The tax credit can only be used to reduce an individual’s tax liability and refunds are not provided to individuals without a tax liability.

Tax Credit donations, along with “pay to play” fees, have become the primary methods for funding our music program. The PHS Music Program is busy trying to raise much-needed funds to fix and replace instruments, purchase music, provide scholarships and awards, clean and replace uniforms, and pay for travel expenses for the various musical groups throughout the school year.

Please make your check payable to “Prescott High School Music Program” and deliver it to the PHS Book Store or mail it directly to Prescott Unified School District (146 S. Granite St., Prescott, 86303). You’ll receive a receipt from PUSD that will prove to your tax preparer that you are entitled to the credit.

Laurie Boaz, a local Certified Public Accountant and PHS Alumni, provided much the details of this message on the AZ Tax Credit issue and has graciously offered to answer any questions that you may have regarding the Tax Credit. She is located at 505 Western Avenue in Prescott and her number is (928) 445-0995.

Fellow Boosters,

Although the Marching Band season is winding down (one last performance on December 7th in the Prescott Christmas Parade), we still have a lot of work to do in support of the entire PHS Music Program and its associated auxiliary units. Please join us at 7 pm in the Band Room on Wednesday, November 20th, for our next meeting.

Hope to see you there!
